Zahra Taseer is a Partner and Lawyer at Laurel Family Law LLP, as well as a family law Mediator and Arbitrator. After years of representing clients in complex family law disputes, she now devotes a significant portion of her practice to helping families resolve matters through mediation and arbitration. Drawing on extensive litigation and appellate experience, Zahra helps parties navigate challenging issues with confidence, practical insight, and creative problem-solving, often avoiding the cost, delay, and uncertainty associated with court proceedings.
Known for her sound judgment, professionalism, and ability to resolve complex disputes, Zahra is regularly sought out by individuals, lawyers, and families looking for an experienced mediator, arbitrator, or trusted legal advisor.
As a mediator, Zahra assists parties in reaching durable and workable resolutions tailored to their unique circumstances. As an arbitrator, she provides timely, fair, and well-reasoned decisions informed by her deep understanding of family law and years of experience advocating before Ontario courts and tribunals. She also serves as a Dispute Resolution Officer with the Superior Court of Justice, where she assists parties and counsel in resolving family law disputes and moving cases toward efficient resolution.
While her current focus includes mediation and arbitration, Zahra continues to represent clients in select family law matters including in Court and in the Collaborative Family Law process. She has extensive experience appearing at all levels of court in Ontario and is also a panel lawyer with the Office of the Children’s Lawyer, representing children in family law proceedings. These roles provide her with a unique perspective on the needs of families and children and enhance her ability to assist parties in resolving parenting and decision-making disputes.
Prior to becoming a lawyer, Zahra worked with human rights organizations in Pakistan, Thailand, and New York. She is a recognized leader within the legal profession, having served as Chair of the Family Law Section of the Ontario Bar Association. She currently serves as the Ontario Bar Association’s Regional Lead for Toronto and is a member of the Diversity and Inclusion Steering Committee of The Advocates’ Society.
Zahra’s commitment to public service extends beyond her practice. She serves as the Law Foundation of Ontario’s representative on the Board of Directors of the Ontario Justice Education Network (OJEN) and as Chair of the Governance and Nominations Committee of Kinvia (formerly Canadian Feed the Children).
Outside of her practice, Zahra enjoys travelling with her two sons, exploring new cultures and perspectives, and continuing her lifelong pursuit of learning. She is currently improving her French in an effort to keep pace with her children in French immersion.
